صدر حديثًا عن الهيئة العامة لدار الكتب والوثائق القومية برئاسة الأستاذ الدكتور أسامة طلعت، ضمن سلسلة النشر العام، كتاب جديد بعنوان "الجالية الفرنسية في مصر 1882–1956" تأليف الدكتورة نوريس محمد سيف الدين.
يوثق هذا العمل البحثي واحدة من أهم الجاليات الأجنبية التي عاشت على أرض مصر وأسهمت في صياغة ملامح الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية خلال مرحلة محورية من تاريخ مصر الحديث.
يقع الكتاب في خمسة فصول، ويتناول الوجود الفرنسي في مصر منذ الاحتلال البريطاني عام 1882 وحتى العدوان الثلاثي عام 1956 في عهد الرئيس الراحل جمال عبد الناصر، مستعرضًا تطور أوضاع الجالية الفرنسية ودورها في مختلف جوانب الحياة العامة.
يرصد الكتاب توزيع الفرنسيين الجغرافي في القاهرة والإسكندرية ومدن القناة، وتأثيرهم في العمران والأنماط الاجتماعية، كما يتناول نشاطهم الاقتصادي في مجالات التعليم والتجارة والبنوك والصناعة، إلى جانب توليهم العديد من الوظائف الحكومية.
ويبرز الكتاب الإسهام الثقافي والفني للجالية الفرنسية، وانعكاسه على اللغة والذوق العام والفنون المسرحية والسينمائية المصرية، فضلًا عن أنشطتهم الخيرية والرياضية والصحية ومشاركتهم في تأسيس مؤسسات مجتمعية كان لها حضور مؤثر في الحياة المصرية.
ويختتم الكتاب بتحليل الأثر الفرنسي في المجتمع المصري، سواء من خلال انتشار المدارس الفرنسية أو عبر التأثير في الأنماط السلوكية والحياة العصرية التي ظهرت في المدن المصرية خلال تلك الحقبة.
يمثل هذا الإصدار إضافة نوعية إلى سلسلة النشر العام التي تهدف إلى توثيق صفحات مضيئة من التاريخ المصري، كما يعد مساهمة مهمة في فهم أعمق لدور الجاليات الأجنبية في تشكيل الهوية الثقافية والاجتماعية لمصر الحديثة.
Recently published by the General Authority of the National Library and Archives, under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Osama Talaat, as part of the Public Publishing Series, is a new book titled “The French Community in Egypt, 1882–1956”, authored by Dr. Nouris Mohamed Saif El-Din.
This scholarly work documents one of the most significant foreign communities that lived in Egypt and contributed to shaping its social, economic, and cultural life during a pivotal phase in modern Egyptian history.
The book is divided into five chapters and explores the French presence in Egypt from the British occupation in 1882 until the Tripartite Aggression in 1956 during the presidency of the late Gamal Abdel Nasser. It examines the evolution of the French community’s conditions and its role across various aspects of public life.
The study traces the geographical distribution of the French in Cairo, Alexandria, and the Canal cities, highlighting their influence on urban development and social patterns. It also discusses their economic activities in education, trade, banking, and industry, as well as their employment in many government positions.
Furthermore, the book sheds light on the French community’s cultural and artistic contributions and their impact on language, public taste, and Egyptian performing and cinematic arts. It also reviews their charitable, athletic, and healthcare initiatives, and their participation in establishing social institutions that played a significant role in Egyptian society.
The book concludes with an analysis of the French influence on Egyptian society—whether through the spread of French schools or through their imprint on social behavior and the modern lifestyle that emerged in Egyptian cities during that era.
